The Absorption Oscillator Strengths in Alkali Metal Vapours

An analysis of the available experimental data on the oscillator strengths for the principal line series and associated photoionization continuum for each of the alkali metal atoms has been undertaken which enables new estimates to be made of the f-values for the high members of the series. Calculations have been carried out which show that the f-values of the Pauli forbidden transitions to filled inner shells, are significant in the application of the f-sum rule and new estimates are presented for the total oscillator strengths of the photoionization continua.
