%X A modification of the steepest-descent method, as introduced recently by Berry and Howls, is used to reinvestigate the asymptotic expansion of the generalized Bessel function ϕ(z)=∑i=0∞zlΓ(l+1)Γ(ρl+β), where o < ρ < ∞ and β is any number, real or complex. Through this modified method, a uniform exponentially improved expansion is obtained, and the smooth transition across the Stokes lines is achieved, for the function ϕ(z).
