AB Using tensor notation general equations are obtained for the solution of problems of finite elastic deformations by successive approximations. Attention is confined to second-order equations for both compressible and incompressible bodies, but further approximations may be obtained if required. The problem of the torsion of a solid of revolution of incompressible material is then considered, and differential equations for this problem are obtained from the general theory. The equations are solved for the special case of a cone.
